Downtown Coral Gables is a genuine Class-A office district, which is rarer in South Florida than people assume. Bacardi’s United States headquarters is here. So are Fresh Del Monte Produce and MasTec, alongside dozens of Latin American regional head offices along Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Alhambra Circle. And The Plaza Coral Gables anchors the north end of the district with the Loews hotel inside it. In fact, corporate work here is Monday through Thursday, it repeats weekly. For dinner on the Mile we drop on the cross street and collect on a call. It is thirty seconds of walking and saves several minutes of circling.

In addition, GableStage sits in the building, with the city-owned Biltmore golf course beside it. Loews Coral Gables, the Hyatt Regency, THesis next to the university, the Colonnade and the AC and Aloft properties fill out the corridor. All of them have proper covered arrivals, which is a genuine operational relief after a week working the Beach.

We do. The Miller School of Medicine, Jackson Memorial, Sylvester and Bascom Palmer sit in the City of Miami’s health district, several miles northeast, not in Coral Gables. Only the main campus and the Lennar Foundation Medical Center are here, so we plan those as separate destinations.
