The East Atlantic Avenue bascule opens on the quarter and three-quarter hour. The Linton Boulevard bascule opens on the hour and half-hour. So a client leaving the barrier island at ten past should go out on Atlantic. At twenty-five past, Linton is the better bet. Nobody should publish a single schedule for ‘the Delray drawbridges,’ because there isn’t one. The George Bush Boulevard bridge to the north operates differently again and has a history of long unplanned closures.
DJT is about seven miles closer and usually five to fifteen minutes faster on mileage and time. On flight availability and fare, Fort Lauderdale frequently wins, with far more domestic nonstops and international service. Its advantage grows when northbound traffic backs up between Atlantic Avenue and Southern Boulevard. That backup is routine on a winter weekday morning. Delray is the real flip zone in this county. Atlantic Avenue is a continuous walkable spine from Swinton east to the ocean. In fact, a party of eight can eat at one end and drink at the other without a car in between. What they need is one drop and one collect, at a point they can find in the dark.
That is not how Boca or West Palm Beach work. There, dining is dispersed across structured parking and people drive themselves. In fact, Delray is the one city here where the whole job begins and ends four miles apart inside the same municipality.

This venue sits three blocks off Atlantic Avenue. For ten days, stadium traffic and restaurant traffic collide inside the same congested grid at the same hour. As a result, it is the busiest fortnight of our Delray year and it wants booking ahead.
From October 2025 on-street Atlantic Avenue is paid from eleven in the morning with a three-hour cap; side streets are paid; the city garages and surface lots, once free at certain hours, are now paid all day and all night.
For private aviation the answer from Delray is Boca Raton Airport, about eleven miles south with two full-service FBOs and a 6,276-foot runway. Lantana is closer on paper but isn't a business-jet field; for midsize or heavy aircraft the honest answer is Boca or DJT.
Delray Medical Center on Linton is a five-hundred-and-thirty-six-bed hospital and one of only two Level I trauma centres in Palm Beach County, drawing patients from Boynton, Highland Beach and the western communities. Scheduled appointment and discharge transport is steady, year-round work.
Old School Square at Atlantic and Swinton holds the Cornell Art Museum, the Crest Theatre, the pavilion and the amphitheatre. It is now run by the Downtown Development Authority. In addition, the hundred-foot Christmas tree goes up there each December.
The events that matter operationally are the ones that close the road. Savor the Avenue shuts five blocks of Atlantic for a single long-table dinner. The Delray Affair takes over seven blocks in April — the sixty-fifth edition runs 9 to 11 April 2027. Therefore, on those days we do not attempt Atlantic at all.

The Seagate on East Atlantic has a hundred and fifty-seven rooms and is now Marriott-affiliated. It also has a separate beach club and a separate golf club, three different addresses under one name. Sundy Village is the seven-acre development on Atlantic west of Swinton. It is opening in phases, with full completion expected around the turn of 2027.
