Hialeah is closer to Miami International than Miami Beach is. From the southeast side of the city it is six to nine miles and fifteen to twenty-five minutes; from the northwest it is twelve miles or so. MIA is both the closest and the fastest airport, which is an unusual alignment in this county. We still build a buffer, though, because the Palmetto is unpredictable and Okeechobee Road is truck-saturated during business hours.
In addition, the Gratigny Parkway is a tolled, all-electronic east-west link from the Hialeah area over to I-95 and Opa-locka. It is consistently faster than the surface alternatives that navigation apps prefer when the Palmetto is bad. Opa-locka Executive is six to eight miles away and is the nearest jet field, comfortably capable of heavy corporate aircraft. Fort Lauderdale is twenty-five to twenty-eight miles north and is worth using for schedule or fare reasons, never for time.
These are not ordinary transfers and they should not be priced or staffed like ordinary transfers. A quinceanera evening means photographs at one location, a church, a salon stop that runs late and a banquet hall. It ends with a return in the small hours, with a party that grows as the night goes on. In fact, a family airport run often means three generations, several suitcases each and two pickup addresses in different parts of the city.

Amelia Earhart Park is a five-hundred-acre county park inside the city with a watersports complex and pickleball courts. The Leah Arts District, Don Quijote Plaza and the Garden of the Arts round out the city’s public spaces. Evening and weekend runs to all of them are routine for us.

As a result, Palmetto General Hospital and Hialeah Hospital are the two anchors, both now operated by Healthcare Systems of America following the collapse of their previous operator.
