There is no parallel bypass on a barrier island two blocks wide, so we plan around the active work zone and route north when the southern half of the city is congested. Mainland access runs through exactly two connections: the William Lehman Causeway at the north end, a fixed high-level span with no toll and no drawbridge running west to Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura, and the NE 163rd Street connection to the south, which crosses the Intracoastal on twin bascule bridges that open for marine traffic. If your trip has a flight attached, we use the Lehman — a bridge opening on a departure is not a delay you can make up.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood is fifteen to eighteen miles from mid-Collins and typically twenty-five to forty minutes. Miami International is twenty-one to twenty-five miles and realistically thirty-five to fifty-five, sometimes worse on an afternoon peak, because the route runs down I-95 and onto a tolled expressway into the terminal loop. Guests book MIA because the city says Miami. From Sunny Isles Beach that choice buys an extra twenty to thirty-five minutes in each direction. We will always tell you when the northern airport is the better answer.
Every resort and every tower here funnels arrivals into a Collins-facing motor court with valet. Nose-in staging for a long-wheelbase Sprinter is frequently impossible, and a driver who does not know that will sit blocking the ramp while a doorman gets increasingly unhappy. Our chauffeurs know which properties will hold a van, which will send you to a service entrance, and which prefer that you wait on Collins and pull in on a call from the desk. Building security check-in, luggage handling and package staging are part of the job, not extras. If the Escalade is the better vehicle for your address, we will say so when you book.

There is very little on Collins Avenue after dinner. The natural evening pattern here runs outward — Bal Harbour Shops two miles south, Aventura Mall and its restaurants across the Lehman, or South Beach and Brickell for a proper night out. Those are all short trips on paper and all subject to the single-road problem. Wait-and-return is the sensible product for an evening out from Sunny Isles. Trying to summon a car at eleven at night on a barrier island with one road is not a plan.

There is a K-8 center in the city and no public high school, so older students commute to the mainland every school day, producing a reliable weekday pattern of morning and afternoon crossings. For families running that route daily, a scheduled car with a known driver is worth more than a cheaper fare.
High season here is roughly December through April, with a second summer bump from Latin American family travel in July and August. The big regional events — Art Basel, the Boat Show and wine and food festival, the Grand Prix — all happen elsewhere; Sunny Isles is where people sleep for them, which means long transfers out and long transfers back, usually late. Haulover Marina to the south is a legitimate boating destination we run to often, though Haulover Park itself is county land, not part of this city.
