West Park is Broward County’s youngest city. It incorporated on 1 March 2005, the thirty-first and last municipality in the county, formed out of four neighborhoods that had been unincorporated for generations: Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Utopia and the Broward community of Miami Gardens.
It also shares a border with Miramar, which is where we are based. This is our neighborhood, and we have been driving these streets since long before there was a city here to name.

You will sometimes read that West Park is under twenty minutes from either region’s airports and seaports. That is true of FLL and generous about everything else. MIA is a genuine thirty-five to sixty-five minute trip depending on Golden Glades, and DJT is a long way north.
State Road 7, signed US-441 through Broward, is the city’s spine and runs right past City Hall. Hallandale Beach Boulevard is the main east to west connector and its western end sits on the Miramar and West Park line.
What the city does not have is highway frontage. No I-95, no Turnpike. Every trip begins on a signalized urban arterial, and getting out of West Park to a highway is often the slowest leg of the whole journey. That is why our pickup times look early. They are early on purpose.
There is no hotel inside West Park. Visitors stay in Hollywood, Hallandale Beach or Miramar, all minutes away, and come here to see family.
So our work is residential and it is personal. Airport runs from driveways with the chauffeur handling the luggage. Cruise transfers. Relatives collected from FLL. Church, funeral and family event transport where several households are arriving from several directions and one vehicle solves what five cars complicate.

Carver Ranches, Lake Forest, Utopia and Miami Gardens each still carry their own identity, and locals navigate by them rather than by the city name. Mary Saunders Park is the main civic green space inside the boundaries, and the Lake Forest Community Center serves the neighborhood it is named for.
One clarification worth making, because it trips up mapping applications constantly: the Miami Gardens neighborhood inside West Park is in Broward County, not the City of Miami Gardens in Miami-Dade. They are different places, several miles apart. Both policing and fire rescue in West Park are provided by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, through the West Park district, and the city runs a council-manager government from City Hall on South State Road 7.

West Park sits at a useful junction. US-441 running north and south and Hallandale Beach Boulevard running east and west make it a natural staging point for southeast Broward, and the Miami-Dade line is immediately south.
For us that means a West Park pickup is rarely a detour. It is on the way to most of where our vehicles are already going.

FLL at about ten miles for almost everything. MIA at around twenty-three is worth it for international connections, though Golden Glades makes the timing unpredictable and we build in a margin for it. DJT is a long run north and rarely the right call.
