Amerant Bank Arena — Drop-Off, Pickup, and What Actually Goes Wrong
The arena holds up to 19,250 for hockey and around 23,000 for concerts. It has about 7,200 parking spaces. The arithmetic explains most of what makes an event night frustrating.
Two things worth knowing before your next event:
Parking fills early, and leaving is the hard part. Lots open two hours before the event, and the arena itself advises allowing extra time. We include any parking cost in your quote up front rather than surprising you with it, and we keep the car on site — because leaving and coming back is not a reliable option here.
Egress is the real problem, not arrival. Seven thousand vehicles leave through a handful of gates at once. Our chauffeurs pre-position and confirm a specific pickup gate with you before the event ends, so you are walking to a known point rather than standing in a crowd texting a driver who is stuck in the same queue you are.
Gate literacy matters here: Gate 3 is the designated drop-off entrance, at the North Pedestrian Walkway, with on-demand pickups exiting via Gate 2. Buses and larger vehicles use Gates 1 and 7 into Lot D2. Premium lots — Valet, Garage, the Vault, the DEX VIP Executive lot and Club Lots — run through Gates 1, 2, 5 and 6.
Getting to the Arena — The Routes We Use
From I-595, Exit 1 at 136th Avenue heading north; 136th becomes Panther Parkway and the arena sits a mile north of Sunrise Boulevard on the left. From I-75 north onto the Sawgrass Expressway, the Pat Salerno Drive exit feeds directly into Gates 1 and 2. Southbound on the Sawgrass, exit Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Road to Panther Parkway, and the arena is half a mile south on the right at Gate 3.
We choose between these based on which direction you are coming from and what the event schedule looks like, not by default.
Sawgrass Mills and The Colonnade
Sawgrass Mills draws roughly 25 million visitors a year across more than 2.3 million square feet — the largest outlet mall in the United States, and one of the few places in America that international visitors fly in specifically to shop.
The section that matters for our clients is The Colonnade Outlets, the open-air luxury wing with Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Coach and Kate Spade. The practical booking here is hourly as-directed rather than point-to-point: a mall this size means a multi-hour visit, bags accumulating, and no interest in hauling them around. The car waits, the bags go in the back, and you keep shopping.
We see this most often as an MIA arrival, a shopping day, and an evening transfer to a Fort Lauderdale or Miami hotel.
Where Three Highways Meet
Sunrise is the only Broward city where the Sawgrass Expressway begins and I-595 ends, both at the same interchange with I-75. That gives it genuinely unusual reach — but it comes with a wrinkle worth understanding.
The 595 Express lanes reverse direction. They run eastbound during the morning peak and westbound during the evening peak. So a Sunrise-to-FLL run in the morning and an FLL-to-Sunrise run in the evening both ride the fast lanes — but the reverse trips cannot use them at all. Same 15 miles, very different trip.
The Sawgrass Expressway is also mid-widening from six lanes to ten through the late 2020s. We route around the active work rather than pretending it is not there.

FXE Is Closer Than FLL
Worth knowing if you fly privately: Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport is 11 miles from Sunrise, closer than FLL. For FBO and private jet arrivals we meet the aircraft, and we track the tail number rather than a commercial flight code.
Corporate Sunrise
Sunrise holds the largest corporate park in South Florida — Sawgrass International Corporate Park, 612 acres — plus Sunrise Commerce Park at 550 acres and two more parks beyond that.
