Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) (PBI, formerly Palm Beach International, still PBI in most people’s heads) is about sixteen to eighteen miles east, twenty-five to thirty-five minutes clean and up to fifty-five in season. Southern Boulevard or Forest Hill Boulevard east to the interstate, with no bridge on any approach. Fort Lauderdale is fifty-plus miles and Miami is well over seventy; from Wellington the Turnpike beats the interstate for both.
For a client flying private into the season, PBI is the answer: Lantana’s ordinance prohibits jet aircraft and caps weight at twelve and a half thousand pounds, and North Palm Beach County General Aviation is capped at thirty thousand pounds on a 4,300-foot runway. Neither takes a business jet of any size, so we meet the aircraft at the FBO at PBI.
The Winter Equestrian Festival at Wellington International runs from early January into the end of March 2027, opening with a premier week on 6 January. The five-star weeks and the Nations Cup week in February and March are the peaks, and Saturday-evening grand prix classes are the marquee slots throughout.
The 2025 festival drew thirty-one thousand competitors from more than fifty countries and produced over two hundred thousand paid hotel room nights — the largest single demand event in Palm Beach County, and it books out fleets. If you need vehicles for a five-star week, ask early.
The polo grounds are now the National Polo Center — Wellington, owned and operated by the United States Polo Association since 2022; half the internet still calls it the International Polo Club. The Gauntlet of Polo runs February through April, ending with the U.S. Open, and the stadium is the largest polo viewing structure in the country.
For fifteen years the Global Dressage Festival ran at Equestrian Village on South Shore Boulevard. That has concluded; the competition now runs at expanded facilities at Wellington International, with the first Global dressage competition of 2027 running 13 to 17 January. We will not take a 2027 dressage client to the old address.
The Equestrian Preserve covers roughly nine thousand acres with more than fifty-seven miles of marked trails crossing local roads all season. Our chauffeurs slow well before crossings, skip the horn near horses, and expect unpaved shoulders on the approach to a barn.
Palm Beach Polo, Grand Prix Village, Palm Beach Point, Saddle Trail and Mallet Hill all operate gated entries, and in season the queue at a gatehouse is itself a delay. We ask for the resident or barn name and the exact address at booking so clearance is prepared rather than negotiated.
Wellington is landlocked, fifteen miles inland, with no marina, no inlet, no university and no luxury hotel. Season visitors stay in rented farms and houses, or on the coast in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach and drive in.
A large share of Wellington’s ground transport is a long inbound leg from a coastal hotel, not a short local hop — we price and plan it accordingly.

Outside the season Wellington is a village of sixty-odd thousand people with a two-hundred-and-thirty-five-bed hospital on Forest Hill Boulevard, two high schools and a mall. Wellington Regional Medical Center anchors a steady stream of appointment and discharge transport that has nothing to do with horses. The Mall at Wellington Green is convenient rather than the county’s luxury shopping destination — that is the Gardens Mall, up in Palm Beach Gardens.
The Village is bounded by Royal Palm Beach, Loxahatchee Groves, The Acreage and Westlake, all separate jurisdictions; Palms West Hospital and Lion Country Safari are in Loxahatchee, and Ibis is West Palm Beach. We serve the whole western corridor, and getting the municipality right at booking is how the car ends up at the right gate on a morning when the road is full of trailers.
PBI is sixteen to eighteen miles east. In season, plan twenty-five to fifty-five minutes. Fort Lauderdale and Miami are fifty and seventy-plus miles. The Turnpike is almost always the better route from here.
